On a few forums I have been on in the past, I have often seen a section added where members of the forum can share their own forums, blog or websites in one specific section. Some forums allow members to do this right from having no posts on the forum and others tend to ask for a certain number of posts to be made on the forum before they can use the promotion section to post a link to their own site.

What are your thoughts on a promotion section on a forum? Are you someone who allows this or are you not keen on allowing that on your forum?

I myself like to offer this section on a forum I own as I feel it's nice for members to be able to share their sites with others, I do however have a post count limit before they can post in there to prevent people from just registering and advertising their site so it's an incentive for members who are active on the forum.

I used to have an advertisement forum on my board, but it was replaced in favor of a directory specifically made for that software by a good online friend.

I think advertisement forums could be odd on some boards, such as a board dedicated to a specific subject such as collecting or soap operas. It fits well on specific types of forums, though.
