Which anti virus are you using for your computer?

As i am on a Mac, there isn't many AV's for OSX, but I use one by a company called Sophos, they are very good!

I just want to comment on your mention of "Sophos being very good"
Back in my junior days, I worked for a company that had a "Sophos is god" attitude.

I was trained up, and certified sophos something, I will NEVER recommend this program to anyone, ever again, it is nothing short of pathetic.

^^ Being that said, I now ask anyone to stop using AVG also. It had hell lot of false positives when I was using it.
Every once in a while it used to notify about some program being bad.
Once it had a false positive that caused windows BSOD. And that was the last time it was on my computer! :/

Since then I am a user of avast.

There are a few good av's out there, Kaspersky, Nod32, Avira to name a few, but they are pricey in my opinion, Seeing as what you get with Avast for free.
Yes Avira has a free edition, but it pops up a stupid ad ALL the time, which irritates the crap out of me.

However, if money isn't an issue to you, or you make a habit of downloading infected files, Kaspersky/Nod32/Avira are great and their heuristic scans are top of the line.

Yes, but I am on a Mac Psy! I haven't seen another company I know of that makes a free Mac AV so I just went with Sophos becuase it is what my college uses on its network and it is a brand I know off. 'Tis all!

I've had that one before, I didn't like it, haha. Each to their own I suppose. Much like I liked Vista whilst everyone else hated it, haha.

You didn't "like" it, - this is one thing i've never understood with people and anti-virus applications, much like other applications that you really need to worry about "functionality" over "looks" (I guess this is the best way to describe it).

What you want from an AV is something that will DO the job you require of it. ClamX does the job, bloody well. Sophos, Not so much - We tested quite a few "viruses" if you would call them that, on two machines, one with ClamX and one with Sophos (the enterprise version, which has "better features and scanning ability" (apparently).

Sophos let so many things go, allowed the machine to be overtaken, (using a vnc exploit and also allowed a rootkit to be installed), Also allowed the machine to send out Windows based viruses to everyone in the computers mail contacts list....

I'm not sure if sophos have since changed their ways, but the above was just not acceptable in my eyes.

ClamX blocked almost everything, Actually I think it blocked everything (Including the windows virus), but actually allowed the mail to be sent, However - There was no attachments...

Each to their own I guess :) But take that into consideration :)

I use to be able use Norton Antivirus back in 06' but later i switched to just general AVG... Avast seems to be doing some epicness with protection for me recently.

At one point - I didn't even have Anti.. and it seem to jus protect itself.. Weird.

But Avast is rocking right now.

Linux Laptop: None
Win7 Desktop: avast! Internet Security
Phone: avast! Mobile Edition

Used to use Norton. Now I use F-Secure and I like it more. There are less people on F-Secure...I don't know whether that makes it faster because the servers are less loaded?
