Using business cards to promote your site

I work in a bank, extracting checks. Sometimes I'll see people's business cards promoting their websites or businesses. Today I had not only a business card, but the person also wrote on a piece of paper. The text on the paper read "Come check out my website!" I don't remember what it was though lol, if it's something like that we just throw it away since it doesn't have anything to do with their bank account. Anyways that got me thinking, who else here is using business cards to promote their websites? Do you think it's an effective way to promote your websites?

I do this with my local websites, blogs, and communities.

My local cycling forum for example is great for this. I'll print up business cards and leave them in bike shops that I go to and spend my money at. They don't mind because I spend my money there.

It usually gets me a few members a month.

If your website is a business, this can help. For instance, if you are running an online store, or if your website is your company website, business card can be helpful but if your website is just a forum or a blog, I do not think it can be beneficial. However, instead of business cards, having a posters and flyers, or even sponsoring the menu in a restaurant can help
