Twitter founder Jack Dorsey says social media is draining people of free will?

If social media is the equivalent of a weapon of mass destruction, then Jack Dorsey would be a contender for the digital era’s Robert Oppenheimer.

Speaking at the 16th annual Oslo Freedom Forum on Wednesday, the remorseful Twitter cofounder expressed how conflicted he felt at his own creation born out of the noble ideals of open-source protocols before becoming corrupted by the realities of needing to survive in a competitive marketplace.

The only answer, in Dorsey’s view, is to create a marketplace of algorithms that return choice to users about which black boxes they find the most trustworthy while granting them the ability to seamlessly switch from one to another at a moment’s notice depending on their needs—or even build their own.

If you could "fine-tune" the algorithm in which Google, Facebook, or even forums could present their information to you, what would you emphasize or deemphasize?

I think we need to be more intelligent to be able to pick good things from a bag where all sorts of things kept inside. It is true that social media is taking free will from people, from food choices to clothing, lifestyle, or even investment and relationship, social media is trying to feed on people. However, as an intelligent being it is our responsibilities to use it for better purpose.
I do not like how search bots give preference to SEO content. With SEO, even the wrong information can get ranked high. Therefore, we need to be more intelligent to consume the right content.
