Admin Well-being Taking breaks running your community

Conversations on avoiding burnout and maintaining enthusiasm while running a forum

You would have to trust that other admin, very, very much.

That being said, we all need breaks, so as you build your community, ensure you identify a solid moderation team who can deal with the small fires while you are away

Do you ever take breaks from running your forum? Do you let your other admins run the forum?
I really like this thread, because it touches upon so many things related to the forum admin: our own well being, pacing of the community, intentional breaks versus unintentional breaks.

There is a difference to me between unexpected breaks and expected breaks.

It's similar to work where you know in advance you want to request vacation in the summer for 2 weeks, and the rest of your work colleagues can appropriately plan. In contrast, you have a sudden family emergency and your team is left scrambling because you disappeared for 2 weeks.

f you build in a pacing that is sustainable and offers yourself breaks along the way, then you're able to keep up with your community with 'healthy' breaks where you can plan ahead and take appropriate steps. It's the unexpected, emergency breaks that can cause confusion.

I wouldn't say I have never taken a break running a forum I owned but it is not something I do often.

I remember back in 2014, I had to let my Dad who was an admin and a friend who was also an admin take over for a few weeks whilst I recovered from having my gallbladder removed, luckily they were two people I could trust.

I've taken breaks from link building for my forums, post exchanges..etc. I enjoy my community, so I don't see reasons not to remain apart of it.
