Staff go inactive

When staff go inactive without saying anything, I tend to reach out and ask them if everything is okay. We all have lives away from forums and life can get a little too much and things in life can also crop up unexpectedly.

I tend to reach out and if I do not hear anything, I will put them in a separate user group until we hear from them or they come back again.

That's a bit annoying but hey, we all have things to do in life, so there must be a reason somebody is inactive, either willingly because he is bored or focused on something more important. I would of course talk to that person and see what's up with that. If no response for some time, demotion is the thing.

Well, I never have had to deal with this issue as I never had any staff who went away for too long. But if that happens and if the staff does not inform me about his absence, I will consider removing him from the staff position.

What do you do when staff go inactive randomly? Do you place them in a "away" group for a certain period of time, do you fire them immediately, do you reach out about possibly creating more activity and checking in on them?

What do you think is the best way to handle when staff go inactive?

I will have to reach out as fast as I could. There is always that human connection that comes with staff knowing that you truly care about them. It is always important to know the whereabouts of staff and why they are away from the forum for a while.

I'll try to reach out to them first. If they don't respond in about a month, they'll probably be demoted to a member or (if I were to have one) a retired staff member group.

If you have a forum and staff members working for you, it's a must to have a communication channel outside the forum. It can be Slack, Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp etc. It will be easier to check in on your staff from any of those channel if they go inactive too long.

This is true. Having a side communication channel aside what is being discussed on the forum is very important. I will always want to ensure that everyone is going great and staying active in contributing their own parts to the success of the forum as well.

It's the best for being in communication with all of your staff members outside your forum. They bring a prompt messages which they can get immediately. They don't need to login in the forum to access your information.
