In email marketing, one of the best ways to get new subscribers is to have very few requirements for them to subscribe to your mailing list.

In most cases, you'll add a field for their first name and email and then a subscribe button. Mailing list experts have said that using fewer options for subscribers dramatically increases subscriber counts because there are fewer requirements.

Could the same concept be applied to forums?

Upon registering on a forum, there are often several fields we must fill out. Username, password, email, location, date of birth, privacy policy checkbox, and other forums may have even more stuff required.

Are we losing registrations because of it?

How can forum owners shorten the registration time to get more people to join?

Do you think this matters? Why or why not?
