I have seen and heard that bride price should be stopped . that it looks like as if you are buying the lady from her family. Should the practice be stopped?

Paying bride price doesn't means buying the lady. There are lots of marriage where bride price were not paid and yet the lady has been sold to the man in some aspect. From my own view bride price is one of the means where our customs and traditions are been putting into practice. And i believe that what bride price is all about and not selling out the lady, so I don't see any reason why it should be stopped.

Paying of bride price is not a worldwide thing, its actually a cultural practice by some communities in some countries, so I don't think it should be abolished since most of these communities see it as there cultural heritage. What I think that should be done is to put a cap on the amount of money the bride family can request, as some family request for unbelievable amount out of greed in the name of bride price.

I do not think it should be abolished because its a cultural phenomenon that goes way back.. People cherish their beliefs and culture, you shouldn't mess with that you know.so it shouldn't be abolished

No bride price shouldn't be abolished, because bride price paying is part of culture, like they say culture is the way of life of people, culture can't be abolish, most family do collect bride price and return in to the groom.

Culture can't be abolish like wise bride price

Bride pride shouldn't be abolished but should be modified in a way to avoid making it look like a strategy to generate money from the groom who will still shoulder the financial burden of the wife after the marriage ceremony

The abolishment of bride price isn't a welcome idea. This could make the husband careless of certain things and may not be binding on him to carry out certain rights in the acquisition of the lady. Moreso, it's a culture that should be encouraged.

Bride price should never be stopped or abolished because it is actually our customs and traditions as Africans. The westerners have their own tradition and so we also have ours, we shouldn't abolish our customs and traditions as they are our identity.

Paying of bride price is cultural and nothing wrong in it. I see no reason why it should be abolish. It is always good to preserve ones culture and traditions.

These payments are divided into two categories: dowry and bride size. The customary law is a payment made by the bride to the groom and his relatives, which is more common in Asian countries. Bride price, on the other hand, applies to the sums paid to a prospective bride and her family by a prospective groom and his family.

Bride price is all about tradition, we Nigeria will strongly believe in tradition so I don't think bride price should be abolished. But logically love is the main thing when it comes to marriage not bride price.

Let whoever think, believe and do whatever. If a family asks for bride price then the groom should pay and some families don't even think about bride prices so that's that

In my own view, I think bride price bride price should only be moderated not abolished, because of what bride price represents as a token to serve as a mark of change of family and so on etc

If its definitely ok by both party i don't see why it should definitely be a problem bride price should not be abolished at all .it's a nice culture and lines at which things are done

Yes, I think bride price should be abolished. I was talking to a friend about this sometimes back and it seems rediculous, like you are buying the lady from her parents. Some even put the price so high if the lady is well educated, has her own car and a stable job. Hell some parents are even using their girls for business by marrying them off at a young age, just to earn the bride price.

Yes of course they should stop the act so we that we are still single could go out there and marry a woman of our choice. That's the more reason why most youth are still single out there I guess.

Paying of bride price or what is also known the daury is a practice that is as old as man himself. There is nothing wrong about it. You're not selling any body

Most people in the rural areas as elders sieze the advantage to benefit from outrageous lists of items given to the groom to meet up to and am not in support of this way.

I think the idea of paying bride price for marrying a lady is not a bad thing, it jus get bad if the amount charged is on the high side.
