Couple with the thing you said, you have to be willing to work hard and go extra mile. If you want to climb the corporate ladder fast, especially in the company you work with, you must be ready to do more that you paid for all time. This may sound silly at first, believe you are going to reap the reward at the end of the days. I learnt about this in book titled "Key To Success" by Napoleon Hill. I applied this myself and raise to become one of the force to reckon with in my work place.

Well, from the comments above, i think it all depends on the kind of environment you find your self in. But truth is, those tips are going to take years to perfect . So many people might get hurt along the way for you to rise very fast especially in Africa. In my years of workplace/experience. I don't know how many people cared about the TOP if they are not ruthless and cunny. In fact, an honest man usually wants to make a few bucks and retire after years of hustling

I agree with the OP that some job makes people to rise faster than the other, rising in a workplace required hard work and pursuing your academic career that related to to specialization gives you edge over your colleagues in office. There are some office that there promotion year is just two years while some job promotion year may be 3 to 4 years.
