Related posts inbuilt or third party?

You can add the functionality of displaying related posts to wordpress using plugins which will query the database and display them. You have another option of displaying the related posts using services from facebook, blogglue etc.
So which one do you prefer and why?

My theme has this functionality built in, but I have the option disabled. Related posts have never helped me when it comes to getting traffic to other articles.

Ditto. The only thing i have is on my footer is recent post, and at the end of the article is a post nav which I still doubt does any good.

For some of my websites I use it. But the things is one of the good plugins for wordpress called "yet another related posts" is heavy on the server. Hostgator once informed me about it and I had to remove that plugin!

I see myself clicking on the stories from related posts when I read websites like torrent freak and all! So I thought others too do the same!

Of course there are people who are going to use the related posts section to find new articles, but that is only a small portion of people.

Today I found out a wordpress plugin which gives us an option to monetise the related posts section!

I think It will show the related contents from other website which might have signed up to CPM/CPPC campaign on their network. And btw I haven't tried whether it works or not, so not sure about it. I installed this plugin and saw the option to monetize!
