I have purchased both .com and .net domains for my website.
I use forwarding to point the two domains for the same website. It's just a precaution to prevent a similar website, in the future. Still, I believe it's just not needed now.

It's a little expensive and I am holding onto a domain that is not required. If I let go of it now, someone might create a similar website but maintaining it, is very expensive.
So, I need some advice. Do yo guys believe registering more than one domain for the same website, is needed?

Namecheap is good for domain hosting since it's at a good price and thought-out the time you can get discount codes. The renewable fee is cheap than some other hosting sites that I have seen. £6 for the new domain and around £10 or more to renew. That's a sale or discount code.

ANswer your question, I think it's down to your choice but to save money and use that money for the site plugins or it's hosting I would stick with one. HEll with more than one domain you have double SEO work and not to mention the cost.

I don't think it's necessary for dominance. Anyway, it steals a good extension from someone else and I wouldn't want to do that. I mean, who wants to ruin others fun and dreams?

If you think hot competition can downplay the business you are into you need to register both domain with Different extension because if another person should register the domain name and gives you hot competition your business won't be able to handle, it can cause a little damage to your business. So just do as you've said and it will go a long way in helping you.

For my personal website I have bought 3 different extensions, one dot com, two dot info, ans third domain with country code. I bought these three extensions at a different time. I am also thinking to get net and org extensions.

It is possible to have more than a domain name for your website. Though you will have major one for your website but the rest will be suburdinate one. All you have to do is to redirect the suburdinate ones to the main URL of your website. You must not do this for SEO purposes to avoid getting penalized.

I will advise you that you should no allow a second part bto use it with you, you should keep using it by you alone for your own purpose because by allowed a second part may cause a damage to your business/work if the second part business dominate the web.

Pardon me for this comment but as you said you are maintaining a domain that you really do not need now. If the prevention of the copycat have you not thought that they can still copy your domain with another domain provider? For example you domain is Clara dot com and Clara dot org. That is not a fool proof protection because the copycat can register the same domain name in dot net. Having 2 domain with the same name is just a waste of resources.

There are a lot of domain extension, in fact over 1500. Is it possible to register a domain name for each of these extensions. Not really. Even if you want to try popular extensions, you will have the number of popular extensions is also very big.

I wouldn't advise you to continue doing in this kind of your mentality as there must always be clone domain of your kind because there are several domain extensions through which people can use the name of your domain but a different extension.

I don’t really think it’s necessary when you already have one domain. Many will not be interested in two

Why should I register one more extension for my website. Let say I have a website mywebsite.com, why should I register mywebsite.net, mywebsite.co?

I see nothing wrong in having more than one domain name for a website. I also have taught of having more than one domain name for my website but I later taught of the expense

It is possible to register more than one domain name for your website if you know that this second one you want to register will also generate traffic. Take for instance facebook.com has fb.com. you can try it out and see it for yourself.
