I'm not sure where I got this from, but I was really comping, for lack of a better term, on the ride quite a bit tonight. Especially during the tune Cheek to Cheek...I practically embellished half the melody on the cymbal while doing the typical ding-ding-a-ding. Along with my regular comping... Our piano player did such a cool solo I just couldn't resist accenting a lot on the ride.
I was afraid this may have messed up the piano and/or bass but they loved it.
Just wondering if any of you jazz cats out there make a regular practice of this.
