Population Growth

I live in a rural county in Tennessee, USA. In 1776. Philadelphia had as many people. 😀 That's funny. Anyway, I don't even know civilization can keep going and people keep from extinction with very low numbers. Well, look at the Black Plague which took out 2 of every 3 Europeans in the 1300s. 😳

The population growth of the city I live in now has been going up since the 90's. I moved out here when I was 8 years old in 1998, and it's certainly has grown since then!

My home town is increasing by roughly 2% a year, so nothing too crazy. The suburb I live in now has increased by around 300% since 2016 :O

When (I think) we moved to the current city we live in the population was 8,908 and now it's apparently almost 13K. It seems like most small towns end up growing into larger cities.

The Spanish Flu wiped out 2.5 million people world wide during WW1.

Not trying to sound over-lefty in this comment. I am more a balanced thinker. However, it does make me cringe that the Europeans were practically wiped out in the 1300s and then go to the New World and wipe out that population via disease.

Earlier folks didn't understand the nature of disease - 800 years ago was a *long* time (when you remember that the notion of washing hands before surgery didn't become commonplace until only 250 years ago or so)

Later folks, well, at least some of them brought it with them intentionally...

I'm also not sure I'd call 30%-60% dying as 'practically wiped out'.
