Have any of you used PhpBB?

https://www.phpbb.com/
I used PhpBB2 heavily at one time. I used version 1 for a short time. Version 2 was a game changer.

The software is still available but development isn't as often as it used to be.

Are any of you still using PhpBB?

What's your overall opinion about PhpBB?

It's one of the oldest free forum platforms out there.

But a bit dated UI and UX if you ask me.
I agree with this.

I think if they worked to modernize these areas, they could very well be the king of free platforms like they once were.

I remember when everyone was using PhpBB2. All the hosting services had one-click install features for it even. It was right up there with WordPress.

Really? I know there were a lot of people who think highly about the project.

I never used it to its full potential.
For sure!

The problem though was adding addons was very manual. There were no one-click installed on version 2. It might take 8 hours to add a big plugin and of course you had to back everything up, lol.

Yes, phpBB3.1 and above include one-click add-ons. You still have to upload the files via FTP, but installation is one click.

I have used phpBB for a long time. I cannot see myself using any other software.

Nothing wrong with that.

You got to use what you're comfortable with.

If everyone wanted me to switch to vBulletin for this forum, I would pass on it because I don't like how vB works. I'd rather use XF.

Some things should end with you making the final decision :)
