Must I follow preset rules to be successful in business?

Most times yes, but sometimes no because there are so many things to be considered in opening or starting a business, eg, good knowledge of the terrain, political situation of the area to which the business is located, forces of demand and supply, the competition etc, as well as the business outlay itself.

Different business requires different methods and strategies, there is no standard rule or principle to follow to be successful In a business, though there are guidelines, since the business is your idea, definitely the ways to success will also be unique to you alone.

It is more like following a business plan that is supposed to guide you through how you are to execute the business successfully and become very good at it and which you must follow in order for you to succeed.

I totally agree with you. You deal on issues as they present themselves. Sometimes there are already known ways to tackle such issue, you just have to add your own creativity to it
