Nowadays owners gets fed up so quickly that they either give their forum all in all or merge with another new or an established forum. The reason is very clear, the activity is not what the owner expected and the huge downfall in activity is what usually makes an owner decide to merge with another forum. The problem is merging can work out and if they do than its good for both forums. But at times merging does not work as expected by both parties. Your users may not like the forum you merge with or vice versa. I was offered to merge with another forum but I rejected simply due to no reason for me to merge, I mean what benefit is it for me to merge with someone else.

Have you ever merged with another forum and if you did what do you think of it now? Did it work out the way you both expected or do you feel it was a huge error?

Yes I did but I was owner who took over the forum and I separated two forums to make sure both forum remains separated while both forums got new members from each other and after 8-9 months I merged in single forum to make sure users stay with forum.

I just want to know how this merging works? I mean if you are moving existing forum to a new forum there would not be a problem bur how do you merge two forums that already have contents and members?

I think you handled things beautifully. Both forum users must have become familiar with both platforms before the final merging and they were probably users of both forum which would make it seamless for them.

Merging forums together to me might lose more problems to the merging parties than profits or benefits. People might not truely like the new merged forums

I don't support merging forums the change will really affect both parties especially the users of the forum there will a problem in adapting hence it is the forums may loose alot of members.

we did this before back when one of our gaming communities lost its playerbase, so we had to merge and it worked really well, but sometimes it might not work if both of the parts are dead

Me that loves being alone running a business be it online or offline. If i own a future blog tomorrow i can't go on a merge with anyone, I'll manage it on my own gradually till it establishes.

It takes a lot of patience to run a forum. I must really commend the admin of this forum. They have really tried to keep this forum active

I don't blame some forums that agreed to merge with others because they probably felt that the activities on their forum has not gone according to their expectations so they felt so helpless than to just merge with another forum but merging with another forum does not favour the forum that wants to merge.

How is it possible to merge two forums have own contents, audience and rules and regulations? I have never done it before, but I will wait for your experiment of Joining two forums. Let's see how will it go you?

Recently GPT forum merged with Bizdustry. The merger created a lot of duplicate posts (because members were creating the same topic on different forums) I don't think the merger helped the bizdustry.

I was not active on the forum in question but I did notice that the forum was merged with this forum. The merger created duplicate threads because these two forums were on the same niche.

Just like the poster said, you need to study your users first to know if they will like the new website you want to merge with. You just don't merge for merging sake lest it turns out as a failure.

Yea i think if there’s no reason to merge then you shouldn’t because I don’t think merging your forum with another forum is really a good idea.I have never merge with anybody because I don’t even have my own forum

I have never merged a forum ,you've already stated it clear people might not like the forum been merged, and it will leads to many things , many people won't have entrest on the forum.

I have never merged my forum with another forum as i don't even own a forum of my own. I really do not like the idea of merging forums and so i doubt i would merge mine when i finally own one.
