What do you do when a staff member gets lazy or innactive? Do you have a inactivity tracker where members can say when they will be innactive or is there something you do to keep track as staff members also have life's and sometimes are busy. So what would you do?

I run my own forum, didn't recruit any staff yet. But this would be a major challenge when I scale up my website. Having dedicated staffs are crucial for the forum's success. My suggestion is to monitor their login and activity time. If they are active on the forum, I believe they are working. If they fail to log in or do not spend active hours, they might have got lazy or strayed out of the path.

Staff is probably the most important when it comes to a business because they are with teh operation of the business from day to day, especially when you expand and it gets hard to micromanage each task.

I think forum administrators should delete the accounts of those inactive staff members who are not contributing to the forum discussions for a long time and without telling any reason for their absence or lack of useful activity.

In terms of a forum, I would replace them. I have only had this issue once where a moderator became inactive. He was only on maybe once or twice a week and never did any work for the forum. I told him he is welcome back when he has more time and gave the position to someone else.

That is a good way to do it because at the end of the day you have to e able to put your forum first after all that is the main reason that you have developed the forum in the first place.

Yup. I even tell people this before they become moderators. If their activity drops, they will have to step aside until they have more free time. I like to have at least 2 mods on at a time at all times.

Two moderators at any given time seems like a good number to manage the forum. Do you often some sort of reward for your moderators in the forum that you own to motivate them?

Yeah, I like to reward them with free games via Steam, gift cards through Amazon, etc. It isn't much but I like to let them know when they are doing good work and I appreciate them doing it for free.

Gift cards are very nice because there's a lot of people that actually are looking to have some sort of monetary reward for they are doing and if you are giving them the gift card it is something that can actually benefit them in their regular day-to-day lives and this can be very enticing.

Yup. I reward based on work and participation as well. I don't tell anyone anything until the end of the month and then two people get rewarded every month. If people continue to slack, they get replaced after a while.

Sometime we needs to trust them as it is not easy for them to keep active and online whole day if you don't rewarding them. I pay some incentive based on activities means they always try to active on forum.

I think that the system that you have in place is very good because it shows that not everyone is going to actually get rewarded however those that put in the hard work are going to get recognised for that and as a result people will continue to strive to be better.

I like this concept because it rewards good work. I don't like to just reward people for being "loyal" or showing up. I feel like that only caters to slackers. Doesn't matter if it is a forum or a place of business.

That is true, however there is sometimes forums that will give you a log in bonus for the day and whilst it is a very small amount it can be very helpful in trying to encourage people to keep coming back.

Actually in the first place I will definitely identify a lazy staff even before employment and he will not be given employment. But if the behaviour changes after employment, I will try to find out reason behind it.

In any place where there is two or more staff, there should be moderator who will oversee the activity of the staff. The moderator will be the one to monitor the staff and pass out information to the staff. As a forum owner, the moderator will be giving you report of all member at the end of each week.

Actually no one can really denied the fact that both lazy and hardworking staffs are available in all business organisation. as a manager, it will be more easier for you to detect them when you are sensitive in your job.

I believe that a lot of work need to be spent during orientation for staff to know exactly why they should work for the benefit of a company and not just because the company says they should work for a particular number of hours.

Just de-promote them. If they don't want to be part of the team, there is no sense in keeping them there. I think a lot of forum positions are given out too freely to the point where most mods don't have anything to do.
