Keeping accounts safe

I was wondering how forum owners keep their members' information safe from being hacked. What are some red flags to look for in a forum or site? Is there anything members can do for themselves to keep their accounts secure? What I do is not use my real name. I tend to keep my account barebones.
Sure, it is good personal security to keep your account barebones. But again, if you see a forum using a premium theme, then atleast most of the security concerns will be in check. I don't sign up to forums that use free hosting platforms.

My cousin brother that has a forum confided in me that he saves user information on an offline storage system that he can access anytime on the website. This is the way he uses to get back user's information whenever there is an attack on his website.

Keeping information safe should be both the job of the account owner and the host website. Though I expect the host website to do more of the safeguards to protect their members from been hacked. Binance is one very good site that I love how they control their member login.

I see no reason why s site should demand of you of your delicate personal information at all you should always be careful not to giveaway your informations to site or any link at all.

NO matter what you do your account is prone to hacking. If not hacked, the site owner might sell your personal data to other people, therefore you should be careful about sharing personal information.

A device's vulnerability increases as more applications are built on it. On devices that have access to sensitive data, just instal important applications and browser extensions. To keep your computer and personal information secure, avoid downloading unfamiliar software or apps from unknown sources.
This is quit true, the more applications a device carries, the more the risk, mostly if they are downloaded for untrusted sites. You are at risk of not only exposing sensitive information but also the device could be exposed to virus. I once entered an unknown site one time, it gave my phone virus, j could not leave the site even after i off the phone, it was showing things i dont understand. I had to format the phone.

They are various ways to keep account safe actually you just need to be careful of whatever sites you use and the information about you you drop at different sites they are what definitely affects you.

Yes, using anonymous name sometimes is safe but doesn't stop hackers from infiltrating into the forum to gain access or important info.

One of the ways to keep account safe is to activate two-step verification at every login attempt. Also you should try to change the password at every 60 days. do all of this regularly and all your accounts and be pretty much safe from the hackers.

Well, online safety starts with you. You should be careful with when and where you post your real information. Many online sites will use either paid of free services to keep the members' information safe, but as the hacking skills improve, even the safest sites are now being hacked easily. Prevention is better than cure. Just keep your sensitive information off the servers.

The best way to keep an account safe is to make sure that the owner of the business is using a strong security system and also using https on the website so that hackers Wont be able to hack into the account of members

I think there is nothing much one can do but to reduce the amount they register on and the amount of information they put out on those sites.

I think from what i have observed in some site,it would be better not to reveal very sensitive information about yourself in a forum,to avoid it going public, because hackers might penetrate the site and break the security system.

You technically nothing you can do about this provided that you have shared your personal information with them. It is the site owners I need to step up and protect the information that is under their custody.

So many forums ask just basic information about a would be member and also there are terms and policies in place on some of these forums that one should endeavour to read to know if one will accept or not, because when one register on such platform the ter8 may have stipulated that the site can use and share information.

I think I had seen a post in another forum that the Facebook database had a leak with a big number of user's data. If they can do that to Facebook then they could also do that to a forum. What we can do is to have a backup for the recovery. But regarding the leak I don't know if that can be prevented.

It is very important for people to keep their passwords safe because if it is linked then people can easily access your account and possibly hack it.

When buying the hosting of the website, they buy the security package with it and with that method it will be very hard for any hacker to hack into the database system of the forum to get the details of members

This question is answerable by the forum owners. I am just a new member of this wonderful forum. I believe the admin and the staffs are working hard so that their forum site will not be hacked. Personally, I believe my account is safe because of my own password.

Having a dedicated server on a personalized PC would also help. Make sure that one computer is for a purpose and don't install unnecessary applications or softwares.
Besides having a high quality premium antivirus software is key with constant updates.
Always tweak and update passwords
