That's true, we shouldn't share our personal information to any site that isn't trusted at all. Always jeep your personal data in a secure way to avoid malicious attack to your site or finance online. Forum owners install DDos server, install firewalls to keep their site secure from malicious attempts.

To some extent reveling too much sensitive information to online forum especially to forum that has no track record of trust is not ideal. But most forum have a good defence mechanism to secure information given by members.

I was wondering how forum owners keep their members' information safe from being hacked. What are some red flags to look for in a forum or site? Is there anything members can do for themselves to keep their accounts secure? What I do is not use my real name. I tend to keep my account barebones.
As a forum admin to keep their members information safe is not as easy by the way we out here see it I guess. First they will hire an hacker either part time or full time to secure their data base. So with that all the members information were in safe place without panicking I guess.

That's true. They need to employ a hacker, knows about DDoS and other security measures to protect the forum server and firewalls. If it isn't given to an expert that understands security immensely it will hard to secure the personal information of users.

Even biggest websites doesn't ensure you're personal data so it always caution to use your personal information. As a website owner, they can use some plugins but it doesn't save them to secure data.

They try their best to secure your personal data. Any trusted website ought to encrypt your personal data store it to be secured by installing strong DDoS server to help quash any attempt of hack by anonymous theft via their data storage.

As for me I believe if you really want to keep your account safe. you will have to keep the password and other valuables private with you. Sharing your password and other important valuables with people might bring you danger

When a site like facebook can be hacked and the information leaked, how can a forum that is a very small website (compared to the site like facebook) stop itself from hacking

to keep your account safe depends on the user if a user do not share his personal information to others or not expose it is difficult to experience faulty.

well, in this case, even your personal email and the password you have used in the registration is considered to be "private" as well, as you could be using the same login credentials in many (or atleast one) websites

It will not be wise to go about such public forums inputting your real details like that. It is not a good thing or p ractice to be doing at this he and time

You're correct man. Those credentials should be kept decentralized and not leaking or putting it on the public view. Those personal datas can be used to do malicious phishing attempts to our treasury.

I believe website owners try their best to keep your data safe but that is as much as they can do. There is no guarantee that it will always be that way

Most time, you just have to take the risk of putting your trust in the owner of the forum. Because after giving out your information, it's left for the forum owner to keep it safe.

The best strategy is do not share your personal information, including your real name and location on forums. In the case like hacking, your personal information will be leaked.

You are right in saying that they always try their best in keeping our accounts safe. But they can still do more because it is a very dangerous thing for such Data to be in the hands of hackers.

A device's vulnerability increases as more applications are built on it. On devices that have access to sensitive data, just instal important applications and browser extensions. To keep your computer and personal information secure, avoid downloading unfamiliar software or apps from unknown sources.
