Inappropriate Usernames

Advertisement Placeholder
I have had a "registration" section of rules where I normally outline one of the rules as "Please do not join the site knowingly with a slur or something that could be considered potentially inappropriate". That way it's a good way to protect yourself from someone naming themselves a nasty word just for the sake of trolling

If someone registers and it is an inappropriate name that they are using, I would first make contact with the user and give them a chance to give me another username I could change it to that is more appropriate. If they fail to work with staff on the forum, I will change the name myself to something more appropriate and let them know that their username has been changed and let hem know their new username, and if they wish to use a different more appropriate name, they can let me or the staff know and it will be changed.

I would ask the member to provide an alternative username so I can manually change it, as they wouldn’t be able to themselves. If I don’t get a response then I’d have to manually change it for them and email them. My mate thought it would be funny to sign up to Storyturner as BigDaddy69 and I had to change it! He was at the pub with me when he signed up so I’ll blame the alcohol…

Recently added a notice on reg form, if they do reg with an non-PG name, we will rename it to "userX" (random numbers) until they suggest a more PG name, due to our community ruleset.
Just added 31 swears and racial slurs to the blocklist. That should reduce a good number of possible bad names so less likely we'll have to manually adjust name. Mostly bad slurs though.
