May be the thread subject is a little misleading. There are people who are usually humble whenever they see a moderator online(this happens a lot in chat rooms) and they are usually rude to other members, when there is no monitoring involved.

I have observed this situation in many websites and it's not possible for the staff, to monitor the chat rooms continuously. So, how do you deal with such members? Would you try to set-up an automatic ban whenever they are being rude? Or would you try to reach out to them, to give them a formal warning?

As for me, I would probably give them a warning first before asking them to leave the chat room(if they can't behave). Is it the same for you guys?

Yes, giving warnings to such rude people is a good idea. If they still keep doing such things, then they must be banned as punishment and to keep a positive and safe environment for your online community.

I believe that everybody who is in a forum should be respected no matter what. What I'm going to do that I am going to report them to the administrators so that they are going to be warned.

Actually it's very advisable that in all business organisation, there should be a department for dealing with any misbehaviour of members either by sanctions, or termination of appoint.

warning such obnoxious people is a wonderful idea.
If they continue to engage in such behavior, they must be barred as a form of discipline and to maintain a welcoming and secure online community.

Every forum have rules and regulation. If you allow your members to be abusing others that means they can make other people never to visit your website again. So it is important you take drastic action.

Actually human behaviour towards others in achieving there personal goals are not inevitable and it most be shown among them. but the implementation of laws at the workplace will limit there behaviour.

It is a fact that respect is reciprocal, any one who shows disrespectful act to another in a organization,he should be dealt with and subjected to punishment

I would give them a formal earning at first. It could be that they maybe in a bad mode and that's why they were rude. If after the formal warning and they don't listen, then i'll ban them.

I think it is important to deal with these unscrupulous individuals swiftly and use them as an example in order to deter others from also doing so in the future. A warning could be given first, followed by a suspension if the offence is continued

I believe every business company are supposed to have a regulatory body and also a constitution which specify and guid the behaviour of individuals. the violations of such laws attract punishment based specified.

It's very simple - set down rules and regulations to guide the affairs of the activities of members. Any one who flouts the rule, will definitely get punished for it. It'll be lovely if A.I can be developed for this as well

Being courteous is a very important thing. This also means that staff members and other kind of members should also be generous and courteous to each other as well.

Probably, being courteous and generous is actually some of the best ways of making an online community to be very lively for people. I've actually observed that in this forum.

I agree that you need to take drastic action for the good of your forum because as you rightly pointed out it might make some people not wanting to return back to your forum

in almost every forum I have been a member of the admins always take drastic actions when it comes to bullying and insults. a lot of people may not be emotionally strong to receive insults and that is why they may not come back to the website again.

For those who are rude with other members should be given a warning, if they didn't stop their actions they should be banned because members need to be in peaceful environment.

Yes, I think that people should be polite. I think that rude member would be a kind of member people may not like interacting with and they may avoid quoting such kind of member.

Probably, I have come across some forums that have a lot of trolls. Their only source of joy is trying as much as possible to make trouble with other members. Such things should not be tolerated at all.

First you set a rules on your site/forum. Then you enact a user agreement that all users agree to when they sign up. If the users don't follow the rules, you are then within your right to give them warnings, and if they keep it up, you can suspend them. If the actions are continued, you can then ban the user.

That is my method when it comes to most sites/forums I have run. If you cause trouble, better stop, or you're out. Simple as that. Some offenses are instant bans though. So if you're caught saying racial slurs, posting porn, CP, gore, or anything deemed too offensive, it is grounds for an immediate ban at pretty much all of my sites.
