Sometimes your staff members just can't handle it anymore, but I think there needs to be a way to stop that from happening. Being more organized and giving them room to be a normal member of the forum might help a lot, but what other things can we do?

Doing a touchbase with staff would really help, just to check in how they're doing so signs of burnout can be detected early and preventive measures can be planned ahead because even if staff have adequate time-off, there are outside factors that should be considered.

I think that time off can be helpful as well so instead of having them active at all times they instead take turns and shifts in order to prevent burn out.

If you are running a community where you have hundreds of daily active members and get thousands of posts daily, it is very important that you have enough staff to handle the duties. When you have staff shortages, your existing staff will surely experience burnout.

I have always been someone who goes by the rule that forum life and real life are two separate things and that real life should always come first and forum life should come second.

I always tell my staff that I only expect them to be on a few times a week around an hour a day and if they feel they can do more they are more than welcome to do so.

Having to-do's for your staff and letting them know exactly what you expect of them as staff can help them balance out their work on your forums to avoid burnout and that is important.

For helping my staff out I prioritize a few key strategies. Firstly, I encourage a healthy work-life balance by promoting reasonable working hours and flexible schedules when possible. Secondly, I ensure clear communication and set realistic expectations, avoiding overwhelming workloads. So they feel less prone to burnout.

That is true. Having enough staff that can be able to handle the basic seems very important. You want to ensure that everyone is doing their bits in ensuring that the website is run smoothly. If you experience enough activity than you are currently getting, then finding extra staff is pretty okay as well.

If the forum is run by entirely volunteer staff, it will be difficult to handle the workload for the staff as these people might not be able to spend a lot of time on the site (since they are not paid). Maybe the owner could have paid staff to handle the pressure.
