Almost everyone who has a website from time to time shares content that has been posted with their social media connections. Though this should grow their traffic many don't get any traffic from the social media sites.

Why?

Because they don't create the sort of content people want to take a look at.

Since everything has a formula I suppose there must be a way to create content which your target audience willl want to read. Any content creation tips you can share?

I find that I get the most responses to content that can somehow encourage people to want to get involved. For example, If I write too much then I'm not leaving enough space for others to contribute. Asking a question in the title or referring to the reader as 'you' helps to address them directly and is a sort of call to action. Writing too much is also off-putting as most of us just want to get to information as quickly as possible. I also try to create a mix of content offered in a variety of ways (articles, lists, galleries, reviews... etc...) It's possible that the people seeing it through social media are just not the right ones for who the content is aimed towards. How you link to it can also make a big difference as to whether or not anyone will want to check it out.
