Even though I own one general discussion forums, my primary aim for building communities is to build a platform where users can get information as well as learn something new, or share information or ideas. I want to build communities as resource platforms. How do I do that? I have investment niche forum that I am trying to build as a resource site for people interested in investing, starting a business or learning about finance. However, my main problem is the content quality not many people are sharing the kind of content I want on the forum.

I think this is a great idea. The independent communities of the future are going to be resource driven and solution communities. Social communities will have a hard time surviving.

The reality when you build a resource forum is that you're going to have to develop and provide the resources yourself. Users will start providing UGC content once you hit a critical mass of popularity, but the initial push is entirely on your own.

To put it another way, would you contribute valuable, high quality content to a site that has nothing to offer to you in return?
