What do you do to get better in running? Do you use equipment? Increase your mileage? Do you run hills? Do you run barefoot? Or are you just a natural lol. Share with us >;)

I am not an expert; but I think in order to increase your running stamina, you will need to run as much as possible.

It does not matter where you run. What is important is, you must run!

Before I run, I would drink some gatorade, probably the best way to keep running is to drink Gatorade. Next, I would say is stretch, stretching is highly important when doing any kind of physical activity.

@milksheikh

You have raised an excellent point. One must drink enough fluid before running, so that he/she does not get dehydrated during running.

Gatorade is probably an excellent source of fluid.

I was a member of my high school's track and field team. We are provincial champions in Canada! I am a sprinter so I prefer going fast rather than running long distance. The trick to getting better at sprinting is not just to run everyday, but to hit the gym and do leg workouts which builds muscle in your legs. Even long distance runners should do some form of weigh lifting. What kind of runner are you?

I was recently on my middle school's track and field team. We were a great team, we won all of our matches until the last one where we lost really badly on our field section. I always ran the 100s,200s, and 400s. I also liked doing relays. My secret was to drink Gatorade before I ran or some sort of good fluid.

Nice! Honestly the best liquid to drink is water. Gatorade is definitely good too but too much is not the best idea as it has quite a significant amount of sugar, especially for track athletes.

I do agree, but I always forgot to bring in water. So, I always used the Gatorade my mom gave me. But Gatorade also helps as well, I love Gatorade, I even drink it when I am not doing something physical :p

Gatorade has electrolytes in it I believe, which is essential when you are running a lot.
Yes it does! That was our team's excuse to our coaches. However, your body does not lose nearly that much salt when you run so it is really unnecessary but still, it is better than some energy drinks and way better than soda.

But aren't you going to burn those sugars anyway, when you are running?

I do not think anyone should drink 2-3 bottles of Gatorade a day. Maximum I drink is one.
Yeah I guess you are right about the running. But if you did not drink the Gatorade and did the same amount of running, you'd burn more fat and calories.

I see. Thanks for clarifying.

Are there any alternatives to Gatorade? What are some of the other sports drinks?

This topic is about how you train for running .-. not discussing a variety of drinks... I will make a topic for that later. If I want to work on speed, I do hill work outs. I sprint the whole hill up, and jog backwards going down. That works on your calf and something else I forgot.

I do this type of training as well! It works pretty much all your leg muscles because of the angle and the amount of power you have to exert. Have you tried squats or lunges to work your legs?

I normally just stretch before I do any type of running. You should stretch out and just do some stretching for 10-15 minutes. I have never tried doing squats but I have done lunges. I also never tried doing any kind of jogging backwards.

Jogging backwards is hard! It works the minor parts of your legs which normally do not get stretched much when you jog normally.

I can jog backwards but I never have tried it out before running. It sounds interesting, I sure to try it out next time I run, which is probably tomorrow morning.

Jogging backwards sounds interesting! I have never done it before though. Do you burn more calories if you jog backwards?

Sigh, I used to run all the time, but not anymore.

And isn't it impossible to train for running, rather you train for something by running?
