How do i play around with how my theme looks?

Is there a way i can edit and change some things about the theme i have on my blog? This is my blog: https://thesqpost.wordpress.com/ The theme is a free one that is available at the start. Am i allowed to edit it? How do it do it?

In order to modifies an existing theme (if the theme allows it) You simply...

1. From your dashboard select "Appearance" then click on "Themes"
2. Click on the theme you wish to customize by clicking on the "Customize" button to the theme you wish to customize
3. Then that should bring you a menu of options to customize it

Yeah that takes me to things like changing the widgets in the left column, changing menus, etc.. but how do i get to the actual code of the theme so i can do manual edits in the code?
