For me I go with this formula:

1 - Can it be a short .com / .net / .org (like bcn.com = basketball coaching network, this is just an example i don't own that domain)
2 - Can I make it sound nice while pronouncing it
3 - Does it give a strong keyword

When I get all 3 of those, I get a new domain and start working on the site :D

This is a great way actually but most times choosing a domain name shouldn't be just by feelings or easy pronunciation; a lot of other factors come into play.
I usually choose domain names based on the niche and the problem I'm trying to solve.

Choosing a domain name has to contain some elements of the relevant keywords. The domain name is need to sound nice too buy what is of utmost importance is the adoption of the SEO.

If I will choose my domain name, it have to be related to the reason am opening the domain, because the more it is related to the information in the domain, the more it will inform my domain users of what my domain is all about.

Currently, I have 30 domains. I registered these domains for different purpose. Normally, I try to use keywords in the domain, I try to choose dot com and if I don't get a dot com I do not compromise with the name and choose other domain extensions.
