How can paid forum software stay ahead of the game?

They want people to pay. However, the only advantages in the future might be one-on-one support and having a lot of basic plugins already built in. Well, they might be enough to want payment, but then again, paid software can be pretty expensive - but then again, one-on-one support is people on call to help 24/7 maybe.

Staying ahead of mobile trends is the way to go. Most activity online is now done on mobile and this is thanks to the boom of smartphones. I am someone who still spends more time on my desktop or laptop in comparison to my phone but I know it plays a huge role in success for future sites. Having optimized themes that work with mobile access in mind is the way to go.

paid forums are ahead of the game for a couple of reasons, one,. they have better features, two, they have better add-ons/plugins, three, their add-ons/plugins are maintained properly and are frequently released with better versions, etc. The open source forums are maintained by volunteers and they might not be updated and maintained properly.
