On April 12, 2023, the first-ever Harry Potter TV show was announced to be coming to Max (formerly HBO Max), and every detail about the Boy Who Lived's return will be passionately followed by the fanbase. Harry Potter is the seven-book series by J.K. Rowling that spawned a massive franchise of spinoffs, movies, plays, video games, theme parks, and more. The story is well-known to people of all ages, and while the magical world of Harry Potter has expanded beyond the core texts, nothing has surpassed the enthralling tale of the original. Harry Potter follows the titular wizard as he explores Hogwarts, discovers magic, and faces Lord Voldemort.

Harry Potter has already had a big screen adaptation as an eight-part movie series starring Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley). Those movies were huge box office successes and paved the way for the ubiquitous franchise universe to follow. However, like all book-to-movie adaptations, there are always scenes and characters that are excised. The HBO Max Harry Potter TV show gives the series the length required to fully capture the breadth of the novels. Their track record of adaptations makes Max an excellent landing spot for the beloved series, and every announcement about the upcoming Harry Potter HBO show will surely generate excitement.

HBO's Harry Potter Show Latest News

Though HBO has remained relatively quiet since April when it comes to Harry Potter TV show news, there's been plenty of speculation online about one key element of the reboot — the Harry Potter HBO cast. While HBO themselves haven't made any announcements about who will play Harry, Ron, Hermione, or any of the other characters in the upcoming Harry Potter series there have been plenty of rumors and suggested castings gaining traction.

The Harry Potter TV show cast is such a talking point that many have started speculating on the odds for key characters (via NME.com). The current favorite to replace Ralph Fiennes (The Menu) as antagonist Lord Voldemort has been an especially notable recasting, with many believing Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest) or Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange) are the likeliest to play the Harry Potter HBO Lord Voldemort. The same report puts Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as a potential Albus Dumbledore in the HBO Harry Potter remake cast, with Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) as a probable Rubeus Hagrid.

Until HBO confirms anything themselves, however, this is pure speculation. There's still no word on who could play Harry, Ron, or Hermione in the Harry Potter TV series cast. Given that the trio are 11 when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone begins it's all but guaranteed that they'll be played by newcomers alongside the new Malfoy, Neville, Fred, George, and every other Hogwarts student in the show.

However, some rumors have pointed to Andor's Bronte Carmichael possibly stepping up to fill Emma Watson's shoes as the TV series Hermione Granger, with Peter Pan and Wendy star Joshua Pickering a potential Ron in the HBO Harry Potter cast (via The Scotsman). As with the adult characters though these cannot be taken as anything other than speculation until HBO makes some casting confirmations.

I would totally like to because they could add plenty of books details they couldn't in the movies.
