I am curious in getting a drum, but because of where I live I'd probably get kicked out if I was to go acoustic. The good thing with acoustic is that you really can get used to the shapes and how the way it hits really affects the sound. Without that feedback by learning in an electric set, you might set yourself up to form some really bad habits that might take a long time to kick.

I think it is interesting to find out what drums do you guys prefer or if you guys started with one kind and then hopped to the other one.
Which kind of drum do you own and why did you choose them?
Which one would you recommend to someone starting up?

Maybe so - but the sound from an electric is proportional to the force - as with acoustic.

Or you could get a sound wall.

Yeah, and that's to be expected, otherwise it wouldn't be as reliable.
If you are just planning to stick with electronic I think it is fine. You won't really feel the habits unless you try to play an acoustic drum and find out you don't even know how to tune it. Haha.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of that. I don't own the place where I live so I'd need to look if that can be an option since I am not allowed to attach anything to walls.

I want an electric myself - because it's like a big toy. It's kind of like those guitar fuzz-boxes. I mean, you can play any sound on it!

Also, as you say, noise isn't a problem with electric. Of course, the drawback is the price - I mean, for a really good set.
