Do You Think We Will Colonize Mars Soon?

Colonizing Mars may happen in the next few decades. There is a group called Mars One, who are already working on it.

How long do you think it will take for us to colonize Mars?

I say that it'll we'll colonize Mars in the next 30 years or so if the Mars One thingamajig proves to be successful (kind of doubtful, though).

I agree that the colonization of Mars is possible and may happen in the near future but honestly don't you think we should be using that money to help countries here on Earth first? Or maybe that money should be used to sustain our Earth because global warming is real and getting worse everyday.

I think we must use our money to try to colonize other planets. Why? Simply because our planet is not going to last forever. What if our planet gets hit my an asteroid and it becomes inhabitable?

I see what you mean but I feel like it will be quite a long time before the Earth is destroyed and we can move to a different planet. People in some countries probably do not even know what spaceships and astronauts are because they are just too poor and are living in unfortunate conditions. I think we should educate those people with the money first. Also, I have heard that we have radars detecting big asteroids that may hit us. I also heard that we have a plan to fire rockets or something at any asteroids that may be approaching to deflect it away. Does anyone know more about this?

You never know Earth may get destroyed in about 100 years. We human beings are often not nice to our own planet and we may turn our planet inhabitable at some point.

I think colonizing Mars is quite necessary for our long term survival.

Never. Mars can not support us. It will cost trillions to even build a building on Mars. Not to mention it takes 30 years to get to Mars.

You posted photo of just one part of Mars. There are many other plain surfaces where people can live.

If we are to ever colonize a planet, it will be Mars (because it has many similarities to our planet).

Mars has a very thin atmosphere of carbon dioxide. And VERY little water, and no breathable air...so...

It is not a rocket science that we need lots of technology to live there. But it is not impossible at all!

We have made significant progresses over the last few decades, when it comes to Mars. I am sure we will continue to make more progresses.

Yeah but I mean there is no air there right? You would have to where a special suit everywhere. What if it broke? How will you shower? All these little things will be hard to do.

Edit: When I mean no air, I mean ISS is placed at a location where there is no air. There is of course air inside the ISIS.

We would deplete the water quickly. Showering, drinking, and not to mention, you much heat up the water.

I guess you are right (I think?)! I just do not know if I have the patience to do that for my entire life. I guess if Earth somehow gets destroyed, we will have to do this to survive! I am sure technology will keep getting more and more advanced in the future.

Why not spend the millions of trillions to help save earth? When Earth goes, Mars will go. When the sun goes dead and turns into a supernova, and burns us all to death, whether if on mars or earth, we will be dead.

Saving Earth is not quite possible because people are not willing to cooperate. Majority of the people on Earth do not really care about this planet.

Personally I think we must try to colonize Mars, because we are running out of resources. Our population is increasing and very soon we may face problems.
