Coin flipping is one of ways to make a split decision when there's no time to think too much on your choice. The coins helps you to decide once you toss or flip it. It's used in football before the match start in choosing players starting sides.

I rarely flip an actual, physical coin - although I do do similar things in order to make random decisions .
