Do you prefer to be a laid back forum admin or more hands on?

The approach that I adopt depends on a lot of factors.

1. Is the activity on the forum high or a bit slow? This is the major part that will make me decide on how to approach my activities on a forum that I own as I wouldn't want some members mess things up for me.

2. Do my forum experience spamming and attacks? There are occasional attacks on forums and watching it from afar instead of being active can be a wrong decision to make. So, I get involved always.

If you have staff members who are very active on your forum, they are going to be more than capable of taking care of any cases of spamming and trolling in your forum.

It's external attack you need to be worried about because those kind of attacks are capable of taking down your forum if you don't fight it head immediately.

You could have 10,000 users however most of them especially just do one registration and inactive needs manual activation or either do less than 5 posts or just one reply means in reality there is 50 or 70 active members.
I have learned a lesson from my previous communities. These days I manually activate accounts because in the past account activation was automatic and I was receiving over 100 spam posts on my site.

Dealing with spammers is in a forum can be very frustrating because they will be flooding every section of your forum with a lot of irrelevant content that is going to make it unsatisfying for those that are making use of your community. This is why I'm always in support of strategies that are set up to prevent those who are spamming any forum to have any successful efforts with what they are doing.

I prefer to be a bit more laid back, as in more relaxed. I don't like to be strict too much. I do keep a close eye on my forums, and take reports seriously, but I like to let users have fun.

I also do not like to be a really strict person. We all deserve second chances. if you become really strict, then the chances are that people may desert your forum. I think that there should be a moderation and this is how forums should operate in general.

I'm probably in between. I can be easygoing, but in the same sense, if people start cussing a lot, spamming, trolling, or any other type of disruption to the flow of content, I may need to take care of it accordingly. I don't mind members having a little fun, but sometimes the definition of fun in some people's eyes can be something foolish.

I’m easy-going & prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt. I am hands on all the way. I can get serious when the need arises. There’s such a thing as being too laid back where spam & degradation is rampant.

The times we have worked together on other brands have proven that you're exactly how you say you are and it's something to be proud of. You barely see people who real and not having two faces in how they do things. One can easily expect you to handle a situation upright and not biased.

A more hands on owner make the community feel 10x better, and that you’re appreciated

I'm the kind of person who would want the fun and play aspect to be maintained in the forum game's section if that provision is made on the forum. Any other discussions should be on about what the OP is all about. Most people tend to step across the boundaries when they are given too much freedom.

That is exactly my type of person. I want to get involved and also be able to be at the forefront in terms of ensuring that everything is done in the right manner. I see no reason why I should relax when I have a forum that I should be working hard to see that it is very active. I see no sense in it at all. Th staff on my forum should be ready to work their socks off too!

For me as a forum users, whenever I notice that the forum owner is no longer being actively committed to his forum, all my interest in using the community is definitely going to drop very quickly. I can't be bothered too much about the forum since the owner isn't going to do much too.
