Typically, I choose 13 years of age as the minimum age to join my community.

I do this for a few reasons.

(1) 13 is fairly mature and easier to coach

(2) I operate in the USA and it's easier to require that in compliance with the COPPA act

(3) It helps me make sure I maintain a family-friendly community

But I wonder if 13 is too young and if we should choose 18 instead.

How do you feel about this sort of thing? What is your policy, and how can you defend it against someone who doesn't agree? What is your debate on this subject?

I tend to have the limit of 13 being the minimum of someone's age when they join the forum as this is something that is law and we are legally supposed to follow.

I at the moment do not have pm restrictions in place for those who are younger than say 16 or 18 but it is something I would consider if anything arose to cause it to be needed.
