Guest blogging is one thing, but have you ever teamed up with another forum owner to share posts? Like for example, you post 10-20 posts on your friends forum, and he does the same for you in return. Have you ever done this? I think I did this on a couple of my first forums, but it didn't help me. But to be fair, I didn't get any traffic, so it was just my friend and I wasting our time lol.

But what do you think? Is this a good idea to help spur conversation on a site?

I have owned many forums in my time and over that time, I have participated in post exchanges with other forum owners in which I will post a certain amount on their forum and they post the same amount on mine. Sometimes I will even do long-term post-exchanges so that I have consistent activity coming to my forum as well. I have found that this does help not only with activity and new content but can in turn help with traffic as well if you are able to do it enough to get a lot of new content and activity.

Guest posting on other people forums in exchange for them posting on your forum is not such a bad idea, and I would gladly do it as it is very beneficial to both parties involved.

I frequently join forums for post exchange. I do this in order to receive posts on my forums. Actually, this is one of the easiest ways to build members on your forum if it is a small community.

I think some people do it, but I don't post such. I always have the believe that whatever I post somewhere else has become theirs so I need new creativity to post new ones. You know you need to stop claiming a post is your post because once you publish it and get paid it has become theirs so it is better you sell at good price.

I also have this same mindset that when I make a post on a forum it is no longer mine as long as it is a paid to post forum and the post now belongs to the platform that is paying me

This is actually called exchange of services. Instead of getting payment as a guest poster you will get the same service back on your own forum as well.
which i believe it is a fair deal, if you scratch my back i would scratch your own back, if you have so many forums doing this then your forums would all grow at the same pace.

Guest posting, where you posted on other people blog or forum, work well for blog, but I don't know for forum owners. However, you can just guest post on any blog. The blog you guest blog must be a blog that have a lot of traffic. The reason behind guest posting is to have more exposure and drive traffic to your own site.

Neither I nor my friends have forums, so I've never done guest posting for my friends. That kind of guest posting can be a good idea if it does help you in anyway, but I think organic traffic is more useful in the long run.
