So my forum is quite new, a couple of months or so. I have taken my affiliate ads off, to concentrate on a clean forum, do you think it could encourage new member signups, or have any effect on new members if they see you don't have ads on?

At the moment I'm just concentrating on content and Traffic and later to cover the costs I will try using some form of way to gain revenue.

A single banner wouldn't bother any user and it won't stop users from joining in. If your site gives out useful contents then people will surely look up no matter if the ad runs.

If its a new forum its better for you not to put any ads. And yes, you should give importance for getting traffic and SEO. Once you have done that, you cxan consider ads may be a 4 ads(125x125x4) per page or one 250x250x1, not more than that.

If your forum is new, you should not think about revenue a lot.

First, you have to build a steady community. You can do that by arranging contests and providing useful information.
