Marketing helps an organisation understand what a consumer needs whiles Sales helps an organisation understand how to sell a product to a consumer.

Actually people might have different understanding about the two words but I believe sells has to do with transactions of exchange of goods and cash while marketing deals with advertisement and other strategies for proper sells.
