How do you deal with drama on your forums? For example, a member who is on your forum just to cause arguments and 'troll' people till they are at their wits end.

Personally for me, one warning and then a ban. People don't need to be told twice!

liking to walk on the dangerous side i actually have attempted to keep a forum right on the edge of boiling - which meant certain tolerance of such behaviour. however it was very very stressful and i dont plan on an exact repeat

i am going to try the "special area" and a restricted group so the "popular" troll types (think how much the public like jeremy clarkson, jimmy carr, and similar) can be limited to the area if they try pushing it too much

Well, I love Jimmy Carr and Jezza, haha. Infact got tickets to see Jimmy in October, xD! That's another story though :p.

That would work though in my opinion, as long as you let them troll but in an area for them to troll each other, it should help stem their urges, lol.

i will see how it goes - the area will accessible for members to post in as well as the main boards but if an individual gets too silly or disruptive they will be restricted to that area and hopefully have the choice to tone it down or leave. it will provide a point between warning and banning.

Of course, it does seem like a really good measure though. Restricted members either calm down or get worse, either way they're restricted and you can always just ban. I actually like that plan *Steals and patents*

not my idea, have seen it tried with varying levels of success on other forums where arguments are not necessarily negative

If it becomes too much, I'll moderate their posts. Delete the ones I feel will cause a dissension on the board but before I do this, I'll send them a brief PM to et them know why every post they enter must be approved before being posted. If they have a problem with that, they can leave on their own.
