Cross-site punishments

I don't think that something a person does on another forum should receive actions against them on my forum. Pretty much we seem to only get one side of things and even if we get both sides, there are extenuating circumstances that don't apply to my forum. Was that person pushed over the edge mentally by staff or members to cause a blow up? Why would that affect my forum?

What if they did something absolutely horrible on another forum and got banned, did the same on a different forum and got banned, and they have no joined your forum but haven't yet done the horrible thing?

Do you think taking the first action will mitigate the same behavior or do you just wait and see?

If they're a known serial forum trouble-maker, I might set up the account to have restrictions without banning to see if the behavior comes to my site too. But it would have to be something majorly bad for that to happen! Malcolm's motto is to give positive intent, so I try to keep that in mind even though it's hard to do with some people :D
