What do you think about country specific domains? I am sure that an average user is more accustomed to typing .com at the end and maybe, in some cases, a .net if they dont reach where they should be heading to. The question is, whats so special about having country specific domains when its not popular anyway?

I know that its useful when we are referring to sites using a local language or maybe sub-sites that is ready to help in a given locality, but otherwise, why would someone use country specific domains?

I am thinking to get a country domain. In my home country, the company that provides country domain does not charge fees for the first year. However, in order to buy the domain, you need to show legal documents/

Sometime back I registered a country domain for my name as well as my business. Prior to this I had never used country domains. SInce I wanted to rank locally, I decided to use country domains.

I also don't see anything interesting about country specific domain names, I believe they should only be used by government institutions and not for personal or business purposes.

i personally believe that they should be used only when the website is meant for something that's limited for those people in that country (for example a university in Austria should have .at as a domain just fine)

From what I have discovered is that most people are definitely more used to using the.com extension on their website rather than any country specific extension like.us or .ng for My country Nigeria. I heard that country-specific extensions gives more local traffic.

I think country domains are good if your website caters to the local people. For example if you sell to local people country domains are good because you rank high on local search

Some people may like to use their country domains for a lot of reasons, like if such domain is targeted for a specific project or course within their country or community, they will opt for such type of domain
