Or do you prefer to keep these topics more off the radar for you? Do you think being more open about it helps the community know where you stand? How do you foster a sense of beloning amongst all your users?

There's a reason why forums have rules and Terms of Service. This plays a very big role in helping to promote and preserve your forum culture. It's what goes on in your community that set precedents in how things will keep being handled.

I have written rules where I encourage members to respect each other, avoid hate speech, be mindful while interacting and avoid sharing content that a lot of people might feel offensive.I promote community culture by strictly enforcing these rules, and frequently remind people who break these rules.

Most of the times, I believe that applying common sense when it comes to making use of any community is always going to eliminate all possible scenarios that is going to result in conflict between one member and another. It's something that I always encourage members to try as much as possible to do whenever they are using my forum.
