Colonizer or Colonized

Do you come from a country that colonized other countries or do you live in a country that was colonized? Thankfully, in the last 2000 years old known history of our country, we have never been conventionalized. We were always independent country. We did not colonize other countries, either.

We have been colonized for most of our history. All the neighboring countries that we have now tried to conquer us and very often they succeeded. We were not independent for too long, but I like the story because the ancestors always fought to the last to protect the country.

I understand where you come from and I sympathize with your. It is certainly painful to be colonized and it is also a pride that your countrymen have always fought against colonizer.
