If you are a forum owner, do you have a chat room on your website? Why or why not?

I tried installing a chat room through an Add On, and installation went well. Over the next week, a massive deduction of post count was noted. This was because members spending more time communicating through the chat service, rather than posting replies on the forum. So we decided to get rid of this plug-in for the time being.

A chat room is unnecessary for a forum. In the actual sense, a forum is like an avenue for people of like mind to communicate. Forum afforded people the opportunity to rub mind together by posting and reply. And, you can message other forum member and communicate with them if you have anything to ask them. So, what why creating chat room again?

There is no value in a shoutbox or chatroom on a forum. It tends to either bring actual activity down or not have any valuable discussion on the shoutbox so I would never have one on this forum.

We had a chat room when we had vbulletin and like others, we noticed a drop in post count. The members actually tried debating in the thread instead of going to the posts and we constantly reminded them to take it to the threads instead. They enjoyed interacting with one another though.

A forum doesn't need a chat room. A forum actually functions as a communication channel for persons with similar viewpoints. People had the chance to exchange ideas on forums by posting and responding. Additionally, if you have any questions for other forum members, you can message them. So why do we need to create another chat room?
