Can someone please describe "link baiting"?

Advertisement Placeholder
I think it is just another word for click baiting which is simply tricking someone into clicking a link or ad. I am not a fan of it by the way.

Link baiting and click baiting are basically the same thing. You trick someone to click your ad so you get money from the click. Or you can also trick someone into clicking a certain link for traffic generation for your website or blog.

It is tricking someone into clicking a link and it is frowned upon.
What I don't understand is why it's frowned upon? Because everyone and I mean everyone tricks people into clicking links... I mean what about ads? The purpose of ads is to get traffic and turn the traffic into leads.

Ah, that makes sense. How do you protect yourself against it?

This right here. It's click baiting. You trick someone into clicking in order to get more website traffic.
