Bumping Threads

What do you do about this? I usually let people bump threads every 24 hours, due to keep the section nice and tidy. If someone attempts to bump it before the 24 hour rule I usually give them a nice warning. If they keep doing it I will eventually ban them because they know not to do it. The same with 2 people bumping 1 thread.

I am assuming you mean bumping in advertising zones. I think it is important to keep the rules clear and communicate with the members. Some people don't know netiquette and some others just think they found a loophole, like having the friend helping them bump.
Personally, I don't care much on how often it is but the messages themselves. I don't like when people take the lazy route of just copying pasting their stats. If they and their friend at least make the messages be interesting, I don't think I would mind as much, unless it felt like they were overdoing it, for example, people trying to bump their thread many times a day when the activity is so low that their thread is already at the top.

In general, forum topics tend to be "buried" down as new topics get crested and posted on, so older threads might end up a few pages behind. Every time someone answers a thread that thread becomes the top of the list of topics. So by bumping a thread, most people refer to. the practice of posting in a very old post that hasn't had any activity in at least some months. As you can see by adding my answer here, I am bumping this thread that hadn't been touched since the year before.

I don't like bumping threads - as in double posting. In fact, I really dislike double-posting - enough to get a mod to stop it. Anyway, though, bumping threads and double posting does have a place - when you're selling things. However, I'm speaking of posts that are discussion.

Anyway, bumping threads is an awesome way to make money for a forum - assuming they're is enough traffic. You simply charge people to bump their commercial threads. Of course, this is also a much more user-friendly way to make cash. People simply don't like ads (banners, AdSense etc..) I think!

I wouldn't say I like bumping threads; it's seen as double posting. In fact, I have a plugin on my XenForo 2.2 forum, which prevents this kind of activity and merges the content into the original post above. Normal replies from other members suffice, in my opinion.

I think bumping is a good feature on forum to build activities on your old threads. By using bumping feature you can create new engagement. However, I think you should use a bump feature where you don't have to post

I've seen a lot of this on this great forum of ours and thanks to @Alexander, the posts are automatically merged so they don't get extra rewards for the extra comments.
Users really need to be educated about practices like this that don't facilitate the growth of any community.

I think it is find for members to bump their threads on the marketplace sections, but I do not see a point of topic starter bumping old threads. However, I think it is okay to go back to old threads and add new comment as long as the topic is still relevant.
