A colorful and bright design or a simple design?`

When it comes to making yourself a new site, what kind of design do you tend to go with? I prefer the simplistic approach, but I know some people like to spice it up and make their site as fancy and pretty as possible. But, what do you all prefer? To have a colorful site? Or a simple and right to the point kind of site?

I prefer simple coloured design that is not too extravagant to cause confusion whenever members visit my website. Those colourful designs that is too shiny, st times look shady and annoying.

This topic would depend on the viewpoint of the user. For me, I prefer a simple design and I am quite turned off by the black background and the very colorful home page design. But I don't think the design would matter much when the contents are very interesting especially for the regular visitors of the website. They will surely come back for the updates regardless of the design.

The best is to make it colorful for the people to be attracted to it. It is not a fallacy to conclude that people love colorful things. Simplicity may not drive the desired result..

I will go with the less colourful and simplistic type of design when it comes to choosing of color layouts for my website. This is because I don't want the distractions the multiple type color design might cause for my audience when on my website

I think it depends on what the client wants as a web designer, you should build the website according to the description given by the client. Personally, the purpose of my website will determine my design. If one is to build website for gaming, it has to be very colourful. I always prefer simple, 'flat design' because it's easy to build on going forward and also it really doesn't matter what a website looks like as long as it functions well and the user can do exactly what they want. Having fun animations might be cool to have, but animations are going to make a user buy something or use something more. The functionality of the site will make it useful.

when building a new website and i was asked to choose between a colourful/bright design site and a simple site, i rather go for a simple design site because I hate flashy things , the content of the website's is what matters.

I think it depends a lot on the context to which you are designing for. Some contexts and situations might require just a simple design and some might require something more creative.

Spicing it may not be well approach. Sometimes its look confusing, miss times i mean but the simplistic one is a bit better than colourful with no direction.
