XF 2.4 - Direct message labels

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on our first Have you seen...? thread about the upcoming Add-on update notifications for XF 2.4. It's exciting for us to start this process so soon after the release of XenForo 2.3! And while we are not sticking to a specific schedule for this series...

XF announces a new feature for 2.3 (as a reminder, Admin Junkies is not on 2.3 yet!) on adding labels for direct messages. This should make direct messages even easier to browse

It's similar to the process of tagging a thread or adding a label to your bookmarks.

I guess I could see this being useful if you've got an old forum and you have a bunch of private messages you need to keep for whatever reason.

And that's the problem. There is a wide disconnect between the developers and what users of the script that they code consider useful.
DM's are something that are rarely used. Maybe spend more time on something actually frigging important like being able to search/filter custom fields for content discovery purposes?
But no, that really makes too much sense. Better to have it as a 3rd party (and probably paid) add-on offering. That way when the developer eventually leaves, you are left in the lurch.

I admire what XenForo is trying to do with this sort of innovation but it's most likely not going to be used by many people to be very honest. Maybe a few guys get so many DM on forums but it's not that much of a thing for most people because they are using the forum's board most of the time and not the DM feature.

I knew I had commented somewhere on here about this before I made the below post, just couldn't remember where when I made a new comment about this type of behavior.

Have you upgraded to Xenforo 2.3 yet?

I am seeing many communities upgrade their sites to the latest version of Xenforo which is 2.3 but some people are still holding back due to add-ons not being updated yet for the forum that they use which would mean they would use features they offer or it would cause a lot of issues at the...

For $210 purchase and $120 a year thereafter you too can do custom field searches thanks to a 3rd party add-on that apparently can do what the Xenforo developers are unable/unwilling to. Now, if you want to add that ability into AMS, RMS, CAS then be prepared to shell out $69.99/$40 for each of them.

Thar's money in them thar XF failures to innovate.

I can see what Xenforo are trying to do and I do like that this is going to be a feature but I feel it will only be used by so many if they have a reason. It is a good idea for admins or even admins who hire staff to keep the messages in order and cause less confusion.

I was going to say something similar. I got a lot of older members, so simple is better. I still like a feature rich site, but I try to simplify it as much as possible.
