Would you allow anonymous posting on your forum?

Don't do this. The forum will be full of spams.

I don'teven think this is even a common practice. It probably was years ago, but with all the hacking spamming attempts going on people are a lot more serious about security measures. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I know someone who ran a forum and it was great then died out so in desperation, he opened it to anon posters and he not only lost his Google adsense account over it, but the entire forum was flooded with porn. Not a good idea.

This.^

Opening a forum to allow guests to post, despite the board, is bound to give your forum a horrible reputation. If you think spammers can get through CAPTCHA's, they can easily get around a simple "post topic" button.

I haven't tried this with my forum. Usually allowing anonymous posting causes more spam and trolling as well. When you allow anonymous posting it becomes almost impossible to enforce any kind of rules because you have no idea who anyone is, and there's nothing stopping them from continuing to post anonymously.

No one is stopping anyone from trolling when they are guest posting.

I have never allowed the use of anonymous posting on my forums but I remember being on a forum a few years back I believe it was a parenting forum and they used this feature in one specific forum which was a question and answer forum and people could either post and let others know whom they were or they could post anonymous (only staff knew who it was) and have their questions answered. For something like this it works.

And there was no spam or trolling issue?

NEVER! This forum I got was a mess because the last owner allowed it. I can not tell you the amount of porn, hacks, spam, and scams I have had to clear out. It was bad! I spent the last 4 days doing it. I am nearly done.

There would absolutely be a spamming and trolling issue. Think 4chan everywhere.
I think that 4Chan forums is awful. The design sucks and people on there are just not nice. It is nothing but blackhat garbage, violence, porn, and spam.

No, agree that it would bring in a bunch of people who would end up spamming the forum and that wouldn't be good. I know that it happens from time to time because people think that they can just post link after link on forums, but it would be out of control without making people sign up.

I would never allow it because it just becomes a nightmare after a while to try and monitor it. I think anyone considering this should just do it for one board or section and see what happens. I wouldn't do it for a full forum.

I agree with you. It allows spamming, trolls, spammer bots, all sorts of people that you don't want on your forum. Some people won't do this but you can't take the risk so I didn't allow it at the time.

In my opinion, I think anonymous posting lures the wrong kind of company: spammers and trolls. I'm wondering if anyone would allow people to post anonymous on their forum.

Would you allow it?
Absolutely not. On my very first forum, ANYONE could post (it had no accounts, you just picked a name and post, similar to anonymous). And someone posted all my personal info. UMMM..... :(
