Worth it to link your site on a brand new forum?

My buddy is starting a new music forum and I am going to be helping him out by starting some conversations. Is it worth it to link my blog in my signature or in the promotion section? His page is nowhere close to being on the search engine rankings. Or if there is a webmaster forum that has been only open for a couple months. Is it worth it to promote your site there?

I believe that every link counts and you never know, maybe the user from his forum will end up being your website's biggest supporter.

As Rihtar has already said, every link counts, every link counts as a backlink which helps your website standout much better and better. I always like using new forums to promote my website, a great way to increase my backlinks + traffic.

In my opinion it's another backlink so why not. What you have to consider here is your friends forum is new now but in a few months time or even a years time he could be quite popular and have good SEO meaning your link being on there may help you a great deal. If you are active on there quite often it will look good for you as well and will help.
