Has anybody switch hosting from wordpress.com to wordpress.org recently? How hard was it? And is it at all possible to use the .org plugins on my wordpress.com website?

Wordpress.com is basically just managed wordpress hosting. Essentially that's all it is. It's easy to migrate to it and migrate away from it. All themes and plugins are able to be used on either one, as it's basically still the same thing.

There are some great alternatives to Jetpack plugins, which don't force a connection to the .com WordPress. In my opinion, the security benefits alone are worth going to Wordpress.org
